CECIDE/GLOBAL RIGHTS Appeal to Guinean government

CECIDE/GLOBAL RIGHTS Appeal to Guinean government to Stop Arbitrary Arrests

The International Trade Centre for Development (CECIDE) and Global Rights are appealing to Guinean, African and international civil society organizations, as well as regional and international human rights protection groups to demand that the government of Guinea stop the aggressions, arbitrary arrests and detentions and investigate and demand accountability from State officials who perpetrated those acts against the inhabitants of the Siguirini District (in the Siguirini Region) on 12th and 13th February 2010. The former District Chief Executive, Major Cécé 2 Koivogui, went to Siguirini on 11th February, accompanied by an armed man in military uniform. The next day, the Major organized a group, comprising soldiers and young civilians to beat up, truss up and arrest some inhabitants in Baraka town, particularly in the Siguirini district, Sokoro district and Léro village.
